Services

Counseling
I provide individual counseling services to people who are struggling with difficult life situations. Counseling, sometimes called “therapy” or “psychotherapy”, is a collaborative process through which people work one-on-one with a therapist who is trained in various helping theories and therapeutic techniques in a safe, empathetic, and private setting. Counseling is an opportunity for people to explore their thoughts, beliefs, emotions, behaviors, and physical nervous systems, as well as confront obstacles that interfere with their well-being and from living a rich and meaningful life. Through this process people can gain a better understanding of themselves or others, increase the practice of self-compassion, set personal goals, and work towards desired change. People come to see me for a variety of reasons including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychological, physical, and emotional trauma, childhood abuse and neglect, sexual abuse or assault, compassion fatigue and burnout, substance overuse/abuse/dependence, relationship issues, chronic illness including HIV and Hepatitis C, and employment-related problems. I have dedicated my career to helping others and am privileged that I get to do this type of work. My research and greatest passion is around the importance of caregiver well-being. I provide provider-centered individual counseling, coaching, and supervision for people in the helping profession who are dealing with burnout or secondary traumatic stress for a discounted rate. Please contact me directly for more information about these services. Please visit the Philosophical Perspectives and Treatment Approaches sections of my website for more information.

Supervision
I offer affordable individual social work supervision services for MSW and addiction counseling graduates working towards obtaining licensure. I have over 16 years providing clinical supervision in the field of social work. I use a generalist and comprehensive approach to supervision by incorporating theory, non-judgmental self-reflection, and insight into ones clinical practice. Because I am a generalist, my supervision is therapist-centered and focuses on the development of clinical skills and other social work skills including advocacy and research. I believe in the incorporation of evidence-based practice, research, and program evaluation, and will help social workers adopt these into their daily practice. I place a strong emphasis on clinician self-care and the importance of work-life balance. People cannot be fully understood without looking at the environments in which they live, work, and play. I believe it is not only the individual social worker’s responsibility to engage in activities that increase trauma resiliency, but it is also an organization's responsibility to promote a workplace culture that is conducive to self-care and one that prevents, reduces, and treats compassion fatigue through trauma awareness and the promotion of caregiver well-being.

Training, Consultation, and Coaching
Those who seek out assistance from various human service organizations have experienced higher rates of trauma, abuse, and neglect than the general population. It can be difficult to see and hear the stories of trauma and abuse and caregivers who work with survivors of trauma are at high risk of developing burnout or secondary traumatic stress, collectively known as compassion fatigue (Stamm, 2017). I do not think it is solely the clients who burn us out but more the workplace culture that plays the largest role in whether or not a caregiver will go on to develop compassion fatigue. There are various practices that individuals, teams, and organizations can use to help reduce the impact of developing these conditions. therefore, all of my presentations emphasize the importance of caregiver well-being and provide information on how both individuals and organizations can increase trauma resiliency.

I provide training and support on caregiver well-being and the implementation of trauma-informed systems of care to various organizations and government agencies. I work with organizations to create individualized presentations and training to meet the specific needs of each agency.
